So what is proper MLN Etiquette anyway. What is accepted practice, what is considered Cheating, and what falls into that Grey area in between?
Here are some of my thoughts in each category. Feel free to comment or suggest some others.
Cheating
- Giving out codes.
- Guessing codes (recent LEGO World Badge) that you have not earned.
- Duping in most circumstances (Duping is the practice of having multiple accounts used for the sole purpose of advancing a main account in Rank. PandoBikini3 is probably the most notorious Duper).
Grey
- Block/Click deals. I personally despise these and delete friends who take part.
- Duping in the case of a user, usually a young child, who is not allowed to post on Forums or Blogs and has no real-life friends or siblings that are interested in MLN. Even in this one case I would limit the exception to a single Duplicate account and that Duper should not use the account to attain Top 10 status in any category. If they do it is Cheating.
- High Rank member giving extra-ordinary trade deals to a limited group of users in order to hasten their advancement. Any deal should be open to all users that want to partake.
Accepted Practice
- Using 3rd party sites like this one to communicate without the restriction of fixed/canned messeges. This includes LEGO's own messege boards although the moderation process there can be frustrating.
- Trades. Trades that are available and open to all that find them. While this can hasten someones advancement in the game, it is considered part of the game.
I think that is a good start and I think different users will have different thoughts on many aspects of MLN Etiquette. What is Grey to some will be Cheating to others while an Accepted Practice by someone might be considered Grey to someone else.

There are some people who's doing this. I'm happy that there's no people of the blog who doing this.
That (number 4 posted by Sim533) could be considered Cheating or OK considering the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteCheating if it is the deal for person A to click on person B's module then person B would return those clicks and then person B doesn't that would be considered cheating (and lying) Also, if the deal was that person A would click on person B's module and person B would give person A some items for those clicks but doesn't (or even if person A only says they did the clicks when they actually didn't) that would also be cheating.
OK if the deal is that person A would click on person B's module just because they are friends. That would be fine, right?
There is a fine line between the two and it could seem like cheating if there is some miscommunication. What are some thoughts on this?

ReplyDeleteKidzRules, can you provide more context about your post regarding Rank 10 and Mini Ranks and how it fits the discussion.
ReplyDeleteMini Ranks will be easier in most cases for Rank 10 as they have no conflict with Rank Modules but that is a privilege of Rank nothing more.

ReplyDeleteI am in the process of pairing down my friends list in preparation for gaining Rank 10 and other projects. I still have a long way to go. One group that will stay on my friends list are those that are official Followers of Vanderdecken12's blog. If you get a Google account and become a follower of his blog I will re-add you.
I just don't have the space for everyone who posts anonymously to his blog and have room for my other projects.

I would say Guessing Codes is okay, Especially when it comes to the Code Module; It does penalize incorrect guesses, and it doesn't say what the prize(s) is/are.

Well that certainly would be cheating but have you ever seen someone capable of doing that?

ReplyDeleteWhy would placing more than 4 modules be cheating and not say two?? Some of the ranks take months as it is. Having a few good friends and putting up two of the same modules is a blessing when you are addicted to ranking up. Also, I think considerable thought needs to be given to the fact that the majority of players don't realize that these types of forums are out there. And how to do they eventually find them, by using a search engine to look for help or cheats if you will for items to gain the next rank. Personally, I only discovered these forums when I was deseperate for help with rank 5 I found none by the way, I eventually discovered and was amazed and pleased at Vanderecken's site that you could find out what was new coming out. I am currently rank 8 in need of grey bricks and would love a cheat for them because it has been so long making all those dang animals by myself, hence an easier way would have been helpful. Sooooo.. right now I feel a lil cheating is alright but once I am rank 10 I will probably feel like I had to do it the hard way so no cheating for anybody else. HA!

Symbiosis and BFF are not Cheating. They are modules within the game and perfectly legal.
I was referring to yielding around 140 grey bricks from a symbiosis module at one time...

and about the 5+ 3slot modules; the modules overlap(it's not so much about getting more clicks on modules but about the modules being active)
